Anti-FHR-2 Antibody: Clone 2.12
Anti-FHR-2: clone 2.12, is a mouse monoclonal antibody that specifically recognizes human full-length Complement Factor H-related protein 2 (FHR-2). FHR-2 has a molecular weight of approximately 29 kDa and is synthesized and secreted primarily by the liver. However, it is also secreted and synthesized by immune cells such as monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Structurally, it shares homology with Complement Factor H (CFH), a key regulatory protein in the complement system.
FHR-2 is involved in regulating the complement cascade, but its biological role is poorly understood and somewhat controversial. Some studies indicate that FHR-2 inhibits the complement alternative pathway (AP) C3 convertase and thereby inhibiting the formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC). Conversely, it is described that a hybrid mutant protein consisting of FHR-5 domains and full length FHR-2 causes complement overactivation. This suggests that FHR-2 rather promotes AP activation.
Dysregulated FHR-2 activity is associated with diseases such as atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In these diseases, abnormal complement activation and deposition on host tissues contribute to pathological processes. Given its role in the alternative pathway, FHR-2 represents a prospective therapeutic target for complement-related diseases.
